Gear Review: Caley 01T Irons

I’ve been a tinkerer with my golf clubs my entire life. If I’ve got the money to try new clubs, you can bet I’m gonna experiment. I could do a WITB video every year and have almost a completely new bag of clubs. If I’m honest, it’s kind of a problem. It’s like an itch I can’t help but scratch. As much as I tinker, though, I’ve always ended up coming back to certain brands, but really anything is on the table when it comes to my curiosities with golf clubs. That’s why I had to order a set of Caley 01T irons when I saw the sponsored ad on my Facebook feed. I’ll be honest, most of the Facebook ads I get are garbage, but Caley intrigued me so much I ordered a set for myself to see what the hype was all about. Boy, am I glad I did. I’ve played 5 rounds with these 01T irons so far, and I’ve got some thoughts. So let me give you a glimpse into my mind and what I think about the Caley 01T irons.

Looks: 9.25/10

Literally, the only reason this isn’t a 10/10 is because they only come in the chrome finish. Don’t get me wrong, these things are beautiful. I mean, just look at my photos of them. They are absolutely gorgeous, some of the best I’ve ever seen. However, it would be nice to have a finish option like a black, bronze, or raw finish. Maybe that’s coming in the future, maybe not, but these things are clean. They have all the style of a high-end, custom brand at a fraction of the price, and I really appreciate that. Another small point that might not seem like a big deal, but it is to me, is that the branding is minimal. That is big for me, because it fits my eye a lot more and, in my opinion, makes the iron look so much cleaner and more stylish. All in all, these irons are absolutely beautiful and I’d struggle to pick another iron model that I think looks better. Seriously, try and find one!

Sound/Feel: 9.5/10

The sound and feel of these irons are literally exactly what you want out of an iron. If you make a halfway decent swing, it’s gonna feel like butter coming off the clubface. Even on off-center hits you still get a solid feeling and you don’t lose distance or direction because of the weighting and injected foam. It really creates a solid strike every time (as long as you don’t straight-up shank it, of course), and gives you both distance and forgiveness so you can have confidence in your swing. The sound is beautiful and crisp, if a little muted, and that is what keeps them from being a 10/10 for me. If the sound was explosive and loud, I would give it a 10 and move on. The sound is crisp and clean, but if it was loud and intimidating I would be in heaven every time I hit one.

Performance: 9.5/10

If I’d had these irons for a year and played 25 rounds with them, I’d betcha this would also be a 10/10, but I’ve only played 5 rounds with them, and I’ve only had them a couple of months, so I can’t speak to their durability. The rest of their performance, though? These sticks are legit. I’ve had the pleasure of having some top-notch irons from Cobra, Callaway, Taylormade, and Mizuno, and this is not a sponsored ad, I promise. . . I’d pick these Caley’s over all of them. For costing about half of what any of those other brands cost, these irons are by far the best iron I’ve ever played, and for the price it’s almost criminal that they are so good. I’ve never hit irons as pure, straight, or far as I’ve hit these irons (and the lofts aren’t all that jacked up either, they are pretty much traditional). All I’ve got to say is that I hope these irons last me several years because I have no plans, and no reason, to take them out of the bag until they literally fall apart on me.

Conclusion:

If you’re spending thousands of dollars on “name brand” irons, stop. Go get yourself a set of Caley 01Ts and take your game to the next level without breaking the bank. The guys over there (who I can only assume are the best group of Scottish lads out there) are great and will take care of everything for you. Just click, wait, unbox, and change your game forever. Caley: you may not have heard of it yet, but you will, don’t you worry.
