He is Risen All Year Long
With Easter in our rearview, I think it’s only fitting that I write a quick (and probably very short by this blog’s standards) blog to make a point that I think needs to be made. I said this several times in my own Easter sermon, and I hope that pastors all over the world did the same: Jesus isn’t just risen on Easter Sunday. HE IS RISEN ALL YEAR LONG!
As Christians, we spend so much time talking about the Cross (and rightly so, to be honest), but we often tend to relegate the empty tomb to an “Easter only” topic. The reality is that the message of the empty tomb is the entire reason we have a hope for forgiveness and eternal life. Without the empty tomb, the person we worship would just be another dead prophet, and not a very “followable” one at that, given His claims about Himself and His mission. I mean, He straight up told the disciples multiple times that He was going to be killed and then come back. If he didn’t come back, then He’d be a massive liar. But, luckily, we have a risen Savior who sacrificed Himself on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and He rose from the dead to defeat sin and death for all eternity.
So the next time you hear a sermon about the cross, let it also remind you of the grave. And I encourage you to be a weirdo like me, telling people all year long that JESUS IS RISEN! AMEN!
