Seeing the Big Picture of Revelation

The book of Revelation is, without doubt, the most polarizing book of the Bible and has been the subject of many people’s fascination ever since it was written. People all over the world have always been obsessed with the end of time and how/when the world will end. All it takes is a quick Google search to see the thousands of blogs, videos, books, and other pieces of media riddled with theories, facts, and research. It’s enough to make your head spin.

So, as believers, with all this fascination and obsession with the book of Revelation, where should we begin in understanding it all and relating it to our lives? How can we make sense of all the information, theories, and thoughts in this mysterious and cryptic book? Well, luckily, we don’t really have to. Let me explain.

Part of the mystery of Revelation is intentional because it is supposed to drive home the point that only God has all the answers. We aren’t supposed to be able to figure it all out because then God wouldn’t be in charge of those events. We are simply supposed to trust in God and His sovereignty over the end, knowing that He is in control of it all! This doesn’t mean we don’t need to dive deeply into the book of Revelation and try to interpret its meaning; far from it! It simply means that we don’t have to try to “understand” all the mysteries of the book as long as we keep the bigger picture of God’s sovereignty in mind.

The end of the world will come about exactly as the Bible describes and exactly how and when God decides. When we put our faith in that ultimate truth; the truth that in the end God wins, we can approach Revelation with an open mind and know that when we don’t, or can’t, understand something it’s okay because God is in control and He wins in the end!
